Sandvik, Carpenter Technology, Arcam AB captured the top three sales share spots in the metal material based 3D printing market in 2017. Sandvik dominated with 16.37% sales share, followed by Carpenter Technology with 12.39% sales share and Arcam AB with 7.89% revenue share.

Despite the presence of competition, due to the clear global development trend, investors are still optimistic about this area. In future more investment will enter into the field. Technology and cost are two major challenges they must face.

Although sales of metal material based 3D printing brought a lot of opportunities, for the new entrants with only advantage in capital without sufficient support in technology and downstream channels, the research group did not recommend taking risk to enter this market.
