Research and analysis of spandex: my country's output will be about 868,000 tons in 2021

Spandex has many excellent characteristics, such as heat resistance, anti-aging, and mild performance. Under the impact of the epidemic, the price of spandex in various countries is rising rapidly, and the export price of spandex in China is also soaring. The following is the development status of the spandex industry in 2022.

Spandex is the abbreviation of polyurethane fiber. It is a synthetic fiber known for its excellent elasticity. It is also known as Spandex elastic fiber or Lycra cotton (Lycra).

It is a polyether-polyurea copolymer invented by chemist Joseph Schiffs in 1958 at DuPont's Bengle Laboratories in Waynesboro. According to the research data of Hengzhou Primus, my country's spandex output will be about 868,000 tons in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%.

It can be seen from the quantity of import and export that my country's spandex is mainly exported. According to the development status of the spandex industry, in 2021, my country's spandex will import 36,800 tons, a year-on-year increase of 25.17%; and export 96,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 22.3%.

From the perspective of export destinations, my country's spandex is mainly exported to Turkey, Vietnam and other places. In 2021, 17,600 tons of spandex will be exported to Turkey, accounting for 18.31% of the total export volume; 12,300 tons will be exported to Vietnam, accounting for 12.81%.

It can be seen from the listed companies that there are currently more than 30 major spandex companies in China, mainly concentrated in Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong and other places.

Both Huafon Group and Korea Hyosung Group have a domestic production capacity of more than 100kt/a, and their market share will be about 15% in 2021, followed by Zhuji Huahai and Xinxiang Chemical Fiber, accounting for about 10%.

The status quo of the development of the spandex industry points out that the spandex industry has now entered a stage of normal development that is tepid, and it is difficult to have a hot market in 2021.

At that time, on the one hand, the demand for anti-epidemic items surged, and on the other hand, the demand for home elastic fabrics surged because of the new crown pneumonia epidemic that changed the way of living at home. However, the repurchase rate of end customers for this fabric was very low, and the follow-up demand support was insufficient.

Spandex is an elastic fiber. Spandex is generally composed of multiple filaments, usually 10D/filament, and now there are 15D/thread, or even 20D/thread. The production solution of spinning method DMAC is harmful to the liver of the human body. Generally, 10D/root contains 0.5mg/kg, and if 15D/root contains 0.7mg/kg, it exceeds the standard.
